Job fair targets over-50 crowd

WEST SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) – Finding a job can be especially difficult for one particular age group, but Monday, they had some help.

Dozens of people talked to potential employers at an over-50 job fair Monday afternoon at the West Springfield Senior center.  22News spoke with one man who’s been out of work for more than a year.  He told 22News competing with younger people for work has made his job search much more difficult.

“I just remember back when many years ago when it was not difficult to get a job. I’m 65 years old and for about the last half dozen or years or so I’ve noticed a big difficulty in getting a job at my age,” Joseph Decarlo told 22News.

36 vendors took part in today’s job fair including several banks, restaurants, Columbia Gas, Big Y  and Six Flags new England.
