SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) – The Springfield City Council got its first look at Mayor Domenic Sarno’s budget recommendation for the next fiscal year.
City Administrator T.J. Plante called it a “Good News Budget.” It contains no layoffs or service reductions, and invests in public safety, maintaining the police force.
“Fully funding a 26-person recruit class, and then doing a mini-academy in August with up to 12 more Police Officers. Then, funding 20 additional firefighter positions through two mini-academies of 10,” said T.J. Plante.
The mayor’s $582 Million budget recommendation represents a nearly two percent increase over the previous fiscal year, and Plante said it has no casino revenues factored in.
