Belchertown elects new Town Clerk

BELCHERTOWN, Mass. (WWLP) – For the first time in 21 years, the town of Belchertown will have a new Town Clerk.  Belchertown voters on Monday elected Colleen Toothill-Berte to succeed Bill Barnett who, on Sunday, officially retired from the post he’s held for more than two decades.

Toothill-Berte won with 998 votes to opponent James Quirk’s 569 votes.  Toothill-Berte has been serving as Assistant Town Clerk.

Michael James Knapp and Dawn French were the top vote-getters in the three-way race for two seats on the Belchertown School Committee.   Knapp garnered 1047 votes.  French got 811.  David Vacchi came in third with 795 votes.  Barnett told 22News that the 16-vote victory for the second seat could result in a request for a recount.

George Dion won a five-year term on the Belchertown Housing Authority.  He defeated Nancy Delgado-Bachman 625 votes to 595.

Barnett told 22News voter turnout was just over 17%.
