Turning back the clock at Kielbasa Festival

CHICOPEE, Mass. (WWLP) – It’s like old times at Chicopee’s Szot Park this weekend. The Kielbasa Festival brought out the crowds to turn back the clock to when the festival had been a yearly event for more than 40 years.

17 years had passed since this last tribute to Polish heritage, music and food known as the Kielbasa Festival.

“Well I was probably about 14 or 15 the last Kielbasa Festival I went to,” said Skye Belle Przystks of Chicopee. “I remember a lot of polka music and a lot of dancing. I feel that was an important part of the experience; all the people celebrating their heritage and culture of being Polish.”

The Kielbasa Festival will continue all day Sunday. Before this weekend, the last Kielbasa Festival had been held in 1997 near where the old Fairfield Mall once stood.
