NORTHAMPTON, Mass. (WWLP) – Hundreds came to Northampton High School to do some walking Saturday. They took up the cause of supporting Meals on Wheels for the elderly.
They raised money, as well as awareness during the Highland Valley’s 1st-annual walkathon. Their theme is “We are Meals on Wheels, so no senior goes hungry.”
Nancy Mathers of Northampton said, “It’s just a good cause; a day to raise awareness that there are a lot of seniors out there who need Meals on Wheels on a daily basis, and the need is great.”
Alice Wimer of Buckland told 22News, “My parents volunteer for Meals on Wheels, and my dad is a driver and he needed someone to walk for him. It’s a worthy cause because I work with the elderly.”
Cities and towns throughout western Massachusetts conduct programs that deliver meals to the homebound elderly.
