Family homeless following Pittsfield fire

PITTSFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) – Six people in Pittsfield started this weekend as fire victims. The Red Cross Disaster Relief team has located temporary housing for them.

Deputy Fire Chief Mark Cancilla notified 22News that a kitchen fire overnight forced the six family members out of their apartment at 76 Elizabeth Street.

One of the family, as well as a firefighter, was slightly injured.

The Deputy Chief said the family cat perished amid the smoke that filled the apartment. There was also a lot of water damage.
