D.A.: Trooper was justified in killing a Springfield man

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) – Hampden County District Attorney Mark Mastroianni has determined that a state trooper was acting in self defense when he shot and killed a man after a traffic stop in August 2013.

According to the D.A.’s report, State Trooper Thiago Miranda pulled over 23-year-old Wayne Edwards of Springfield for speeding on I-91.

The report said Trooper Miranda shot Edwards after he attempted to drive away while the trooper’s body was halfway in the car. Mastroianni said the trooper feared for his life and was justified in shooting Edwards.
