3 arrested for attempted robbery of convenience store

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) – Springfield Police arrested two men and a juvenile after an attempted armed robbery of the Gulf Express at 429 Boston Road shortly after 2:00 A.M. Monday.

The two men were seen driving away after the attempted hold-up.

Springfield Police Capt. Harry Kastrinakis told 22News that about 20 minutes later, that car was found on fire in some woods off Seymour Avenue.

Capt. Kastrinakis says one of those arrested was found hiding under a deck nearby, while later on Kay Street, two men broke into a vacant house. Capt. Kastrinakis says the pair was arrested as they tried to take a cab from that Kay Street home.

No names have yet been released, according to Capt. Kastrinakis, the men arrested are possible suspects in a late Sunday night Cumberland Farms robbery in Westfield.
