Mother’s Day spending expected to reach $19 billion

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP)– There are lots of ways to make mom feel special on Mother’s Day.

The National Retail Federation reports that more than 80 percent of Americans will give or send mom a greeting card for Mother’s Day.

About two thirds of gift buyers will opt to give mom flowers today, about 30 percent give mom clothing or accessories, and consumers are expected to spend about a $1.5 billion on spa-day related gifts, like massages or pedicures.

Americans are expected to spend an average of about $163 on mom this year, making the nation’s total Mother’s day spending expected to reach a little less than $19 billion.

But if you are looking to get a Mother’s Day treat for free, many gardens across the country are offering free admission for moms on Mother’s Day. Some restaurants like Boston Market and Hooters are treating mom to a free meal. Dairy Queen says they will send you a gift card for a free ice cream cake if you had your baby on Mother’s day.
