SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) – The hundreds of people who packed into the Mass Mutual Center in Springfield Saturday night were all given the same thing…Hope.
It was the American Cancer Society’s Evening of Hope Gala. The event included a dinner, a silent auction, dancing, and live music.
It was attended not only by cancer survivor’s, but also by those living with cancer. People like Fran Kokonowski, who has an incurable form of cancer.
She told 22News what gives her strength.
“What pushes me and keeps me going with cancer. It’s hard getting up every morning with cancer and going to bed every night with cancer. I have a wonderful family. My children and grandchildren are here tonight and coming back to Springfield meant that I got to see a number of friends and colleagues that I work with.”
Fran told 22News that incurable doesn’t mean not treatable.
She says she’s grateful for the work of the American Cancer Society raising money so cancer treatment is available.
