WORCESTER, Mass. (AP) — A Worcester woman charged in the fatal stabbing of her live-in boyfriend has been ordered by a judge to undergo a mental health evaluation.

Stephanie Fernandes is charged with manslaughter and assault and battery with a dangerous weapon in the slaying of her boyfriend of five years, Andrew Wagner of West Springfield.

Prosecutors say the 31-year-old Fernandes stabbed Wagner at about 11:00 p.m. Wednesday during an argument. He was pronounced dead at the hospital.

She was scheduled to be arraigned Thursday, but it was postponed until after her 20-day evaluation.

Fernandes’ lawyer tells The Telegram & Gazette (http://bit.ly/1kQkgwx ) that some preliminary evidence points to self-defense.

A neighbor says the couple had recently moved into the home and planned a summer wedding.
