MONSON, Mass. (WWLP) – Five people were arrested Thursday night, after Monson police received a tip about people doing drugs inside a garage.
Chief Stephen Kozloski told 22News that around 10:30 P.M., officers were called to the garage on Maxwell Road by someone who said they overheard several people inside discussing drugs. The caller said that they had looked through a window, and saw one person putting a hypodermic needle into his arm.
Kozloski says that officers went to the garage, where the property owner showed them to a window. Looking inside, they saw five people, as well as needles and other materials used in the taking of heroin.
When they went inside, Kozloski says police found heroin that appeared to have been prepared for ingestion.
They arrested the five people inside on a single count of heroin possession. The suspects are:
- Caitlin E. Downing, 18, of Belchertown
- Jesse J. Phillips, 26, of Palmer
- Samantha M. Quesnel, 18, of Monson
- Tyler J. Sostre, 19, of Monson
- Justin F. Tyburski, 18, of Belchertown
Richard Learned of Wales said, “In monson? I just couldn’t believe it. You know these things are coming into these towns, but to happen so close, kind of surprising.”
“I just feel the heroin epidemic is hitting very close to home,” said Heather Emory of Monson. “My children are in middle school and I have one in elementary school; just scared for their lives.”
All five suspects are scheduled to be arraigned Friday in Palmer District Court. According to Kozloski, some of the suspects told police that they had recently finished a program for treating heroin addiction.
