Parking Kiosks replacing coin meters in Greenfield

GREENFIELD, Mass (WWLP) – While the public parking lot on Chapman and Davis streets is being repaired, the city found an alternate use for the parking kiosks. Put them on Main street, and starting May 9 they’ll be live for drivers to use.

Greenfield is testing new parking options to see how residents like the switch. Coin operated meters will be out of order tomorrow, so drivers can try parking kiosks that take coins and credit cards.

Kalle Fjeld from Greenfield told 22News, the added convenience of using their credit or debit card makes coming downtown more appealing. “You know sometimes I have not stopped because I didn’t have the change. I would have gone to a business but I don’t have a quarter so I can’t stop. If i really needed to stop that convenience would make a difference.”

The kiosks will allow you to add time to your meter with the push of a button.  And a copy of the receipt in your windshield is all you need for proof of parking.

Parking enforcement will be available on Main St. May 9 from 9AM to 4PM to show people how to use the kiosks.
