WMass man sentenced for using pit bull in robbery

PITTSFIELD, Mass. (AP) — A man from Pittsfield who police say used his pit bull-type dog as a weapon in a robbery has been sentenced to up to four years in prison.

Joshua Desnoyers was sentenced after pleading guilty to charges including assault and battery with a dangerous weapon in connection with the September attack in a park.

Prosecutors say the 22-year-old Desnoyers approached two men and told one to hand over his backpack. When the man refused, Desnoyers set his dog on the victim.

The dog bit the victim while Desnoyers kicked him, then ran away with the backpack, which contained a laptop and $33 in cash.

The victim required medical attention.

The Berkshire Eagle reports that Desnoyers said in court he has been diagnosed with a variety of ailments, including post-traumatic stress disorder and depression.
