West Springfield, Mass. (WWLP) — West Springfield Public Schools is doing it’s part to try and prevent alcohol and substance abuse.
Wednesday night they hosted a free community forum at West Springfield High School to help keep parents and students informed on the dangers of drugs and underage drinking.
The presentation was called “notMYkid” and was geared toward inspiring positive life choices for students in 5th to 8th grade.
According to Russell Johnston, the Superintendent of Schools, “So much of it is making sure that parents and students know how to converse with each other. That we are informing parents what to look for, how to keep the conversation open, and positive.”
At Wednesday night’s meeting, students who are currently recovering from substance abuse shared their stories. Students and families say that was extremely helpful.
