Farm Workers Council CEO submitting paperwork to clear his name

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) – The attorney for the CEO of the New England Farm Workers Council told the I-Team that he has started refiling financial reports to the state.

Former District Attorney Bill Bennett, who is representing Herbie Flores, says there is no official deadline to get the paperwork in, but he wants to submit a corrective action plan and revised paperwork as soon as possible to clear his client’s name.

The New England Farm Workers Council was recently named in an audit for inappropriately spending state dollars. About $700,000 are in question, and some of that relates to Flores’ travel expenses and salary.

Flores says it’s a misunderstanding, and they have the documentation to prove it.

The New England Farm Workers Council is a human service organization that provides job training, fuel assistance and daycare services. It also supports agricultural work in the community.
