SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) – The dream of homeownership was made possible for one Springfield family Monday, due to the mission of Habitat for Humanity.
Sam and Lori Holt rented a run-down apartment for years, and wanted a better home for their foster children. For the past year, more than 100 volunteers have worked to make their dream a reality.
The Holts themselves contributed more than 500 hours to the project, and on Monday, Springfield Mayor Domenic Sarno and Habitat workers officially presented the finished 3-bedroom house on Quincy Street to the new homeowners.
“Almost like a new beginning. A new start,” Lori Holt said. “It’s one cohesive place that the family can come and meet and hopefully bond and get even stronger than we already are.”
Over the last 26 years, Greater Springfield Habitat for Humanity has helped create homes for 54 Pioneer Valley families, and 87 international families.
