CHICOPEE, Mass. (WWLP) – The Chicopee High School Renovation Committee reviewed new cost-efficient proposals Monday night to renovate the old Chicopee High School.
The committee wants to re-purpose the 100-year-old building, which is at 650 Front Street. There were concerns that the project would cost more than $38 million. Anything more than 38, the city would have to pay for the additional cost.
Superintendent Richard Rege told 22News he’s optimistic they will be able to stay right around the budget cap.
“The last bunch of numbers we will be looking for, the general contractor bids, which will be opened next Wednesday, and if those hold true to form I think we’ll be in a much more favorable shape to see the project come in much closer to the 38,” said Rege.
If everything goes well the renovation could begin late June or early July.
