PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN 6) — North Columbia Boulevard was closed for several hours early Sunday as police investigated a deadly crash involving a pedestrian and a vehicle.

Police said they were responding to the 5000 block of North Columbia Boulevard on reports of a welfare check after a naked man was reported running through traffic. Later, police said there was a second call of the same man doing push-ups in a traffic lane. Officials said the crash occurred a short time later around 4 a.m. near the intersection of North Columbia Boulevard and North Fiske Avenue.

Police said they shut down North Columbia Boulevard near the crash site so the bureau’s Traffic Division’s Major Crash Team can conduct an investigation. The roadway re-opened shortly before 7 a.m. Sunday.

The driver, who was not impaired by alcohol or drugs, remained on scene and was cooperative.

Police said the Oregon State Medical Examiner’s Office will conduct an autopsy, including a toxicology report, to determine the pedestrian’s cause of death.
