NORTHAMPTON, Mass (WWLP) – Thousands marched while thousands of onlookers cheered during Saturday’s 33rd annual NOHO Pride parade through downtown Northampton.
The theme this year was unity in diversity, an estimated 20,000 marchers representing a variety of organizations representing gays, lesbians and transgender individuals paraded this afternoon.
There appeared to be just as many onlookers cheering them on.
Marchers shared their feelings with 22News.
“Well you know Northampton is such a wonderful community and the whole town came out and it makes me happy to be here with the veterans’ administration,” David McGrath of Northampton said.
“I just moved here seven months ago, My wife and I have been together for seventeen years but we could only get married last year in D.C. and we’re finally recognized,” Amy Gakill of Northampton said.
The pride parade has been an annual Northampton event since 1982. The marchers paraded to the three county fairgrounds where the festival celebration continued for several hours.
