WESTFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) – More than 100 dogs and their owners paraded through Stanley Park in Westfield on Saturday for the annual Bark For Life event.
Bark For Life is a noncompetitive walk event for dogs and their owners to raise funds and awareness for the American Cancer Society’s fight against cancer.
Several people participate in this event every year to celebrate cancer survivorship and honor those who lost the battle to cancer. Often, people who are going through chemotherapy and radiation treatments, find comfort in their canine companions.
Co-chairman of Saturday’s event, Jim Stuart, said his dog, Sammi, was constantly by his wife’s side while she was going through cancer treatments.
“Sammi was like her best friend, and was by her side all the time when she wasn’t in the hospital,” said Stuart.
