WESTFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) – The memories of fallen heroes were honored Saturday at Barnes Air National Guard Base in Westfield.
The 104th Fighter Wing held the 27th re-dedication of their F-100 Memorial. The memorial honors 12 unit members who died in the line of duty. Saturdays ceremony included a 21 gun salute, a wreath laying, and reading the names of the fallen aloud.
Some of their surviving family members were on hand to remember the sacrifices of their loved ones, including Pat Coon, who’s husband to be died just before their wedding in 1968.
“It’s terrible to miss someone who’s so young and vital, and I’m really pleased that the Air National Guard remembers these fallen warriors every year. It means a lot to the whole family.”
The F-100 monument was first dedicated in 1987.
