InFocus: Springfield’s new top cop and youth programs

CHICOPEE, Mass. (WWLP)- The city of Springfield is planning big projects that will hopefully bring some economic stability not only to the city but to our region as well. Part of any city’s planning includes quality of life issues. That’s where 22News InFocus comes in.

Springfield has seen a marked increase in violence in recent weeks. Many of these incidents and the victims involved are young people who are alleged to engage in drug and gang activity.

This week we’ll talk with the city’s new police commissioner about his plans for the department and programs to address the violence issue as well as community involvement in helping police. We’ll also have the directors of two successful outreach programs in the region that focus on at-risk youth.
