CHICOPEE, Mass. (WWLP) The 2015 Great New England Air Show could be getting a financial boost this year.
Chicopee State Representative Joe Wagner announced late Friday afternoon that the Massachusetts House of Representatives has adopted an amendment that would provide $100,000 to help promote and host the event. Wagner sponsored the amendment.
This will be the first air show in three years. It’s scheduled for May 16th and 17th at Westover Air Reserve Base in Chicopee. More than 300,000 spectators are expected to attend the event that will be headlined by the Navy’s “Blue Angels.”
Wagner’s office said the 2008 air show contributed $13.8 million in direct economic impact to the region. Chicopee also hosted the event in 2012.
The House included the funding in its annual state budget. The budget now heads to the state Senate for approval.
