Easthampton mills evacuated due to gas leak

EASTHAMPTON, Mass. (WWLP) – Someone hit a gas line, causing an evacuation at a mill complex in Easthampton Friday.

Andrea Luppi of Columbia Gas told 22News that the water department crew was doing work behind the mills on Pleasant Street, when they hit a plastic gas pipe.

Forty-two people were evacuated, Luppi said.

Crews have since shut off the gas, and the situation has been made safe.
