Spfld. treasury auctioned off unclaimed property

SPRINGFIELD, Mass (WWLP) – Thousands of unclaimed personal items went on display Thursday at the state office building in Springfield. From discarded gold watches to snapshots of the Beatles.

Prospective buyers got a look at what’ll be auctioned live on E-Bay Saturday.  The State has made every effort to contact the owners, and in many cases up to 12 years have gone by since banks gave the treasurer the contents of expired safety deposit boxes.

Coins caught the eye of Rich Domerack of Granby.  “Silver and gold coins are really popular, I just wanted to come back here to see If they had collectible, strictly bullion coins.”

The state took in more than a half million dollars during last year’s E-Bay auction of unclaimed property.
