WORCESTER, Mass. (AP) – A judge has approved a jail transfer for a man held in the case of a 5-year-old Fitchburg boy whose body was recently found after being missing for months

The Telegram & Gazette of Worcester reports Alberto Sierra’s lawyer said his client fears for his safety at the Essex County jail.

Sierra is held on kidnapping, assault and child endangerment charges. He’s being moved to an undisclosed western Massachusetts jail.

Five-year-old Jeremiah Oliver was last seen in September but he wasn’t reported missing until December. Sierra and his girlfriend, Elsa Oliver, the boy’s mother, were arrested and have pleaded not guilty to similar charges.

Jeremiah’s body was found April 18 near a highway. Authorities consider the case a homicide, but haven’t filed new charges.

The case drew criticism of the state’s child welfare agency.
