University students protest over three Muslims being bullied

WEST SPRINGFIELD, Mass (WWLP) – Students from Westfield State University protested outside of West Springfield High School in support of three Muslim sisters who say they’re being bullied.  The three students visited Westfield State University, and spoke to an Islamic studies class about being bullied in their high school because of their religious beliefs.

That’s when students who were in that college class decided they wanted to do something about it.  On Thursday Matthew Gadziala a senior at Westfield State University and fellow students were outside West Springfield High School at 11 a.m. protesting against hate and bullying.

“I think it’s easy to make them out to be the bad guy because they look different, they talk different, they act different. There the ones who are sort of on the defense. They are the ones who are the victims.”

Court records show two of the sisters are facing charges from a fight in the school cafeteria.  Protesters say they spoke to the sisters, who told them it was self defense.

22News reached out to the West Springfield Superintendent of Schools, but he was unavailable for comment.
