HOLYOKE, Mass. (WWLP) – The 22News I-Team has new information Tuesday night on the police officer in Holyoke who misplaced his city-issued firearm, twice.
Through a records request, 22News got about 120 pages of documentation and correspondence related to the case.
Holyoke Police Sgt. John Hart told investigators he placed his gun between a handicapped railing and the wall inside JCPennys’ restroom at the Holyoke mall. Sgt. Hart said he hurried out because someone was knocking on the door and he left his gun behind.
This was not Sgt. Hart’s first misstep. Hart was suspended for five days without pay in December 2011 for losing a department issued sniper rifle in September of that year. The rifle was recovered months later.
The police chief and mayor will attend a public safety hearing Wednesday night on this issue.
