Deerfield, Narcan available to save lives

GREENFIELD, Mass (WWLP) – The drug Narcan recently became available in Franklin County.  And it helped save a life over the weekend and another one last night in Deerfield.

Deerfield police were dispatched to the Neighbor’s Convenience store on route 116 around 6:30 last night after a 24 year old woman collapsed from an overdose in the parking lot.She was in cardiac arrested when police arrived.

EMS crews administered CPR and Narcan.  Before being taken to the hospital she had regained consciousness, all thanks to the small nasal spray.

David Sullivan Northwestern District Attorney told 22News “We want to save lives. these are human beings. we need to care for them, we need to take care of them and we need to give them that second chance. And hopefully they take advantage of that second chance.”

Narcan is available for residents who want to be prepared in case they are in the position to save someone’s life.  The kits are free at tapestry health and training lasts about 30 minutes.

A 30 year old woman who overdosed Sunday afternoon on river road in Deerfield was revived by her friend who had undergone the Narcan training.
