UMass students march against student debt

AMHERST, Mass. (WWLP) – University of Massachusetts Amherst students marched through the campus Friday bringing awareness to their debt.

They chanted, carried signs, and marched to the UMass administration building. UMass students will graduate on May 9th, and soon after, have to start repaying their loans.

Student debt is about to top $1 trillion nationally, and a new report shows student loan debt for the state’s public colleges and universities has risen 27% in the last three years.

About 66% of students here in Massachusetts take out loans to pay for college.
