Two men admit to leaving severed rabbit heads in mailboxes

WESTFIELD, Mass. (WWLP)– Police in Westfield are preparing to charge two men who are accused of playing a disturbing joke on people in town.

So far, three people have found rabbit heads in their mailboxes, two of them were in Westfield on Pinehurst and Willis Streets.

Now, Westfield police say that two newspaper delivery men are responsible.

According to Westfield Police Sgt. Steve Dickinson, the public helped to identify the 26-year-old man from Chicopee and the 24-year-old man from Springfield who admitted leaving the severed heads as an Easter morning joke.

The men told police they found five dead rabbits along their newspaper route in Southwick, Granville, and Westfield. The men then took the rabbits home, cut off their heads, and left them in random mailboxes between April 14th and April 16th.

22News spoke to Sgt. Jeff Baillargen early Friday morning about the case. He said the men were not arrested, but that the detective bureau will determine what the appropriate charges are once they complete their investigation.

There are still two rabbit heads unaccounted for. If you see or know anything related to the case you are urged to call Westfield Police at (413) 562-5411.
