(WWLP) – The 22News I-Team has found that a new fee imposed by the Springfield Parks Department is keeping some charities away from Forest Park.

The Springfield Parks Department is charging a 10% fee from the gross revenue of charitable events being held there. That was too much for the organizers of the annual multiple sclerosis walk, which moved their event from Forest Park to Stanley Park in Westfield.

Patrick Sullivan, Director of Parks for the City of Springfield, says that the fee is designed to protect the taxpayers of Springfield, adding that large events can make it difficult for other residents to enjoy the park.
