Selectman Saunders hoping to fill vacant Senate seat

LUDLOW, Mass. (WWLP) – Another candidate is joining the race to fill the seat being vacated by State Senator Gale Candaras. Ludlow Selectman Aaron Saunders officially launched his campaign Thursday night.

Saunders’ announcement comes just days after another Democratic candidate Tim Allen accused Eric Lesser of not meeting the residency requirement.

Saunders told 22News he’s going to focus on his own campaign and leave the decision on Lesser’s qualifications up to the Massachusetts Ballot Law Commission.

“The fact is that we have a Ballot Law Commission to decide those questions. Regardless of the outcome it’s not going to change what we do. We are going to keep working, reaching out. We have a tremendous grassroots organization, talking to voters each and every day. We are going to keep focused on that,” said Saunders.

Candaras, who currently represents the 1st Hampden and Hampshire District, is not seeking re-election.

Party Primaries will be held Tuesday, September 9th, and state elections will be held on November 4th.
