SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) – Western Massachusetts’ brutal winter has been blamed for driving down the sale of homes and driving up prices.
Springfield realtor Brian Sears told 22News that his home sales were down 20% during the month of March. He said that too few desirable homes were on the market because owners held on to their property during the winter. The other factor: potential buyers stayed home.
“Definitely, the winter makes it so that people don’t want to get out of their homes, don’t want to go to open houses, look at a number of houses, so It’s nice to have spring,” Sears said.
Sears showed 22News projections showing an upswing in home sales and the increased number of homes on the market during April and May.
