Police, apartment residents pitched-in for Westfield cleanup

WESTFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) – Tuesday is Earth Day, and police officers in Westfield did their part, by participating in a cleanup effort at a city apartment complex.

Officers and other volunteers gathered at the Powdermill Village apartments on Union Street Tuesday morning to take part in the cleanup.

Westfield Police Officer Allen Magdycz told 22News that in addition to keeping the local environment clean, the effort helps show the residents that the department cares.

“It brings people together and it shows involvement with the police department for one thing,” Magdycz said. “Getting the teams involved, from the schools and the students, community service is a good thing to do.”

The Westfield cleanup was just one of many environmentally-themed events across western Massachusetts on Tuesday.

A city-wide Earth Day Clean-Up event will also be held this Saturday. Interested volunteers should meet at the Masonic Lodge on Broad Street, starting at 8:00 A.M.
