WEST SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) – For years a flowering cross has been a vital part of the Easter Sunday Service at Mittineague Congregational Church in West Springfield.
It’s become traditional for members of the congregation to add flowers to the cross as the Icon is brought into the church at the start of the Easter Sunday service.
Edward Gibson, a member of Mittineage Congregational Church told 22News, the significance for him of this flowering cross.
Edward Gibson of West Springfield told 22News, “The cross comes to life with the flowers, just like everything comes to life in the springtime and everything blooms. It represents just like the resurrection of our lord, Jesus Christ.”
The cross covered with flowers first become part of the Mittineague Congregational Church Easter Sunday service six years ago.
