BOSTON, Mass. (WWLP) – Runners spent the day in Boston, collecting their bib numbers for the Marathon.
The race is just over 24 hours away and today thousands of runners from right here in Massachusetts and from across the globe were in Boston picking up their numbers and getting ready for the big day. People who were ready to claim their bib at the Hynes Convention Center Saturday, started preparing mentally and physically for this year’s race.
“After running the 5k today and crossing that finish line, I got so choked up. I can’t even imagine what it’s going to be like to run on Monday. I’m so excited.” Lauren Mcclain, a Massachusetts runner, told 22News.
One thing it will definitely be on race day is packed! 22News spoke with a bib distributor who spent all day handing out numbers to the runners. He’s a Springfield native who says the longer the lines, the better.
Dick Miller told 22News “I like to meet the runners, congratulate them on running, qualifying, and just talk about where they’re from. You meet people from all around the world. It’s great.”

From across the world and across the country, runners are in Boston, ready to prove “Boston Strong” is more than just a saying. It’s a symbol of unity that stretches far beyond city walls.
Laura Gonzalez, a first time runner from California, told 22News “It makes me feel incredibly blessed to share that with all these runners. I’m excited. I’m nervous, but I know that regardless it’s going to be a great experience.”
An experience where, for the first time in history, the cheers and support of more than one million people will be heard echoing throughout the city. Tomorrow is the last day for runners to pick up their numbers.
22News will be in Boston for you throughout the weekend and on Marathon Monday.
