SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) – After some above normal temperatures earlier this week winter made a return. On Wednesday many of us woke up to a coating of snow and Thursday morning it was the cold.
“The weather has been crazy. I can’t believe I had to scrape the frost off my windshield ah recently with this kind of crazy weather in April, come on it’s not supposed to be like this,” said Lou Manzi of Stonington, Connecticut.
Thursday morning it got down to 22 degrees at Westover in Chicopee, breaking the old record of 26 set back in 1946.
That was quite a contrast to this weekend and earlier this week when temperatures were in the low to mid 70s, and high temperatures recently have been running about 15 to 20 degrees below normal. Our average high for this time of year is 60 degrees and our average low is 37.
People out at Forest Park Thursday had to put on their heavier clothes to stay warm with temperatures only in the 40s.
“To me it’s typical April weather, yeah we’ve been shorts and then woodstove and then shorts and then woodstove. I’m wearing my long johns today but we’re outside,” said Rob Fletcher of Erving.
A sign that is it spring, we continue to see minor flooding occurring along the Connecticut River.
The good news is that the Connecticut River has crested in most locations and will be slowly receding over the next couple of days.
