SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) –A 28-year-old woman from Springfield pleaded not guilty in court Thursday morning, after being arrested for the murder of a 61 year-old man.

Diomaris Valentin, of 97 Tinkham Road was arrested at Springfield Police headquarters at 130 Pearl Street Wednesday afternoon and was held overnight, Springfield Police Department spokesman Sgt. John Delaney told 22News.

Valentin was charged with the murder of Craig Sheridan, who was found dead in his Temple Street apartment March 22, after neighbors reported an unusual smell and said they hadn’t seen him for a week.

When officers  went into Sheridan’s apartment, they found his  body badly decomposed.  Sgt. Delaney said Sheridan was dead for about a week before his body was found.

An autopsy by the state Medical Examiner’s Office later ruled Sheridan’s death a homicide.

After pleading not guilty during her arraignment Thursday, Valentin was ordered held without the right to bail. She is due back in court again on May 20.
