HOLYOKE, Mass. (WWLP) – There’s good news in Massachusetts when it comes to hiring.
The Department of Labor and Workforce Development says preliminary estimates show Massachusetts gained more than 8,000 jobs in March and the state’s unemployment rate dropped.
Experts at Career Point in Holyoke told 22News locally the industries hiring are in the medical field, manufacturing, and solar energy, but they said right now they’re focusing on getting younger people started in the workforce.
“We’re working with local communities and trying to work with business partners and community-based organizations to get them to add work sites for young people, either hire them themselves, provide funds for others to hire them or create internships.” said Career Point’s Bud Delphin.
State officials say there has been a gain of more than 50,000 jobs since March 2013.
