What to do if you are late on filing your taxes

WEST SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) – The tax-filing deadline has come and gone but that doesn’t mean people are done filing. 22News is working for you after talking to tax experts about what you should do if you still haven’t filed.

Ray Maagero at Liberty Tax in West Springfield told us you should get it in as soon as possible to stop any penalties associated with late filing.

He said talking to an expert at this point could help you find options you may not know about to help save money.

“If you can’t pay the tax, what are your options? Could you do an option compromise where if you owe $10,000, you can sell it for 1500? Those are options you really should talk to a professional about and might even be able to save you some money,” said Maagero.

Last night was the deadline to file you federal taxes. You have until midnight Friday to file you state returns.
