Westfield mayor dealing with ethics complaint

WESTFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) – Westfield’s mayor is dealing with a complaint made to the ethics commission.

Westfield mayor Dan Knapik told 22News the complaint alleges a potential ethics violation because of his invite list to the Big E Westfield Day mayor’s reception and alleges that is was an unpaid political event.  Knapik told 22News this complaint isn’t about who was invited.

“It’s about who wasn’t invited and what I find interesting is that there was a public records request by a city councilor last fall, she was on the invite list last fall in 2012, but didn’t go”, said Mayor Knapik.

Knapik also said over the years, the Big E has reduced the amount of invitations each town is allowed and he doesn’t invite guests who didn’t attend the year before. No word on when the complaint will either move forward or be dismissed.

Knapik said if the ethics commission does move forward, this would be an issue for every mayor that attends their own town or cities day at the Big E, including the Governor for Massachusetts Day.
