Washington Monument to reopen this summer

WASHINGTON (NBC) – After nearly three years, the Washington Monument rehab project is on its home stretch, preparing for a May 12th opening date.

If you want to be one of the first to get inside, registering on line might be your best bet. People with the national parks service expect this to be a hot ticket this summer.

The monument has been closed since August 23rd, 2011 when a 5.8 earthquake rocked the region. For 32 months, workers have been busy repairing the damage the monument sustained. When the monument does reopen, it will be under extended hours for the summer 9AM until 10PM.

The web address to register for tickets is recreation.gov.
