AMHERST, Mass. (WWLP) – Two members of the Massachusetts Gaming Commission went to the University of Massachusetts in Amherst, on Tuesday, and got an update on a six year project that’s already underway.
A UMass research team is studying the impact of gambling in Massachusetts. Researchers are studying everything from crime to addiction
UMass researcher Rachel Volberg told 22News it’s unique in that they’re developing a baseline before the casinos open.
“For the most part, impact studies of gambling that have been done have just been a one shot deal after the new form of gambling has been in place for a number of years,” said Volberg.
The research team hasn’t released any early results yet. The cost for the project is around $3.6 million.
