Two overnight stabbings in Springfield

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) – For the second week in a row, it was a violent weekend in Springfield. 22News has the details of two overnight stabbings.

One of the stabbings occurred at the intersection of Dwight Street and Worthington Street. Springfield Police Lt. Henry Gagnon, told 22News that just after midnight, two men were approached by a third man with a knife in the parking lot of the Mardis Gras Gentlemen’s Club in Springfield.

The two men have only been identified as a 26-year-old and a 25-year-old, one of them was stabbed during the incident. He’s been taken to Baystate Medical Center and is expected to recover.

Lt Gagnon said that the man with the knife was Brandon Coppedge of Springfield. Coppedge was arrested and charged with having a dangerous weapon, attempted armed robbery and assault with a deadly weapon.

This stabbing is just one week after five people were sent to the hospital following three shootings, one of those took place near here on East Columbus Avenue and Worthington Street.

Lt. Gagnon also told 22News there was a second stabbing happened overnight on Carver St. where a 19-year-old was stabbed in the back.  He is also expected to recover from his injuries.  Police are still investigating what happened in that incident.
