SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) – A man is listed in serious condition at Baystate Medical Center, after Springfield police say that he was stabbed in the chest during a domestic dispute that started over a mess in his stepson’s bedroom.
Police Sgt. John Delaney told 22News that the 26 year-old man was stabbed Friday morning at his 131 Verge Street home. Thirty-three year-old Serina Wainscott, who lives with the victim, was arrested on charges of attempted murder and assault and battery by means of a dangerous weapon.
According to Delaney, police found the home in disarray when they got there before 5:30 A.M. A teenager who lived in the home told police that the trouble started when his stepfather woke him up and began hitting him with a broom, telling him to clean up his room. The stepfather, who the boy said was drunk, had also allegedly thrown Kool Aid at the child and told him to clean it up.
Delaney says that Wainscott, the child’s mother, came to the boy’s defense and the two began fighting in another part of the house, during which time the victim was stabbed.
Police performed first aid on the victim, who was taken to the hospital.
