Poll: Americans don’t want to pay more for easier tax forms

GREENFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) – Filing your taxes may seem like a tedious process, but not too many people want to change it; new research says Americans have no problem filing taxes the way they do now.

The Associated Press poll suggests most taxpayers think filing a tax return is simple enough. The poll found 90% of Americans would rather leave the tax system as is. Only 7% liked the idea of paying more to file their taxes for the sake of a simpler form and process.

Taxpayers told 22News they think the process is easy enough, and there’s certainly no need to pay more money.

“It’s not that difficult to do; follow an easy form. They’ve got pamphlets, they’ve got the directions. There’s free places everywhere,” said Carl Secore. “I just don’t see the reason to pay more money or to change it.”

The poll also found that those who did their taxes by hand or with software found filing taxes easy, while those who used a preparer were more likely to say the process is hard.

You have 4 days left to file your taxes, and remember there are penalties for filing incorrectly or not filing at all.
