Car crashed after police chase; Search for two people that ran away

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP)-  Police are searching for two people that ran away from a car that crashed after a police chase that started in Wilbraham and ended at a Springfield car wash.

A Wilbraham police officer attempted to stop a maroon BMW sedan on Boston Road in Wilbraham near the Springfield city line at 1:20 a.m., according to Sgt. Edward Lennon of the Wilbraham Police Department.

The car did not stop and the officer was lead on a chase, Sgt. Lennon said.

Lennon said that the officer lost sight of the car for a brief time, in which the car crashed in the area of the Sunoco gas station at 1313 Boston Road in Springfield. Witnesses reported that two men ran away from the car after the crash.

Springfield police used a dog to try and track the two men down.

The license plate on the car had been reported stolen, Sgt. Lennon said.

The Wilbraham police checked on surrounding area parking lots to see if any other vehicles had been tampered with, a Wilbraham dispatcher said.
