GREENFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) – Greenfield is challenging its residents and businesses to use solar energy.
As part of its 2014 sustainable master plan, the city is launching the solar challenge program, in hopes of installing more solar panels, and making renewable energy affordable in town.
Interested participants can either purchase a solar system or enter into a lease agreement with a solar panel installer. The goal is to get the whole city involved.
Maureen Pollock of Greenfield Conservation told 22News, “We want to open this opportunity to everyone. as long as you have a roof or some land that could accommodate ground mounted solar we want to invite everyone to participate in the program.“
They would actually benefit from a volume discount. As more people sign up for solar panel installations, the cheaper the price will be.
The meeting scheduled Wednesday night to inform residents of the benefits of the program and how to join has been canceled.
